Surf's Up! - Blame the Professor
Every time I put out an e-mail re. the Beach House, the phone goes crazeeee! We've got one date left in June (Sunday 19th - Friday 24th - 900) that's it then until September (Sunday 4th - Friday 9th - 900)! As always first to ring with a credit card seals the deal (07760 126225). Sleeps ten, sand between toes guaranteed.
    Ash Cloud Mania
We've been here before, haven't we?
For those heading abroad for the Whitsun holiday, the sight of an ash cloud is not what you want to be seeing right now. You work hard, you plan your time off, you make all the necessary arrangements and then you have to go through all this uncertainty. You have our sympathies. Sitting in the departure lounge is no fun at the best of times.
The upshot of all this ash cloud business is that Cornwall will be a beneficiary. We saw it last year, when the volcano erupted, it went crazy down here as people made last minute decisions to stay in the UK and head for the coast.
So what will happen this year? I can tell you that, pre-ash cloud, bookings at the surf school for Whitsun were well up on any previous year! And the phone has been red hot this morning. It's going to be very busy. If it's your intention to come down here this weekend, then I would stop what you're doing and get on the phone to sort out accommodation (sorry - but the Beach House is full). I will keep my ear to the ground but the only place that I know has a few houses left is Roserrow and I only know that because I was up there last night with my boys hitting a few golf balls (not all straight) on the driving range. The new owners, have made a lot of good changes (01208 863000) and it's a great place to stay! My sister owns one of the houses so we go up their loads to swim etc.
My second top tip, is that if you're thinking about coming down for a surf with us, I'd be looking to book lessons before you come down. The diary isn't full, not quite yet. But availability is getting limited. Give us a shout on 01208 862003 if you want to guarantee a place.
    Mahoustic
Big thanks to all who turned up for our first gig of the year. After a 'loose' start it all kicked off at the Oystercatcher with half an hour left on the clock. It was when I was singing the chorus of Foxy Lady and found my nose about three inches from the ceiling beams that I felt confident all was going well. You've got to love a bit of crowd surfing. Wail (lead guitar) said, "I was looking at Will (drummer). When I turned around, you'd disappeared but I could still hear your vocal. And then up in the air in amongst a sea of hands, I saw your feet." Rock and roll.
    Long Sleeve Tees are in!
Not only are they in, but they're on! When new stock comes into the shop it's like Christmas. I rip open the boxes ("NO!" shouts Sarah) and decide what I'm going to wear for the rest of the day. These new long sleeves are a revelation. Put one on on Saturday, still got it on today! And we're selling them at 14!! Fourteen pounds, that can't be right? With the new 1995 logo on the front too! Here's instructor Luke modelling a large.
Okay that's me done. Whatever you decide to do over the Whitsun holiday, whether that's relaxing on the beach down here with us, tending to the roses in the garden or drinking tea out of a plastic cup in the departure lounge of terminal three, we hope you have a good one. Slip, slap, slop. Pete
    Fireworks on the beach
Bit stormy down here at Polzeath today (see below) - it was plugs out in the office, as the clouds bumped together and the sky lit up. Nothing that the Cornish drainage system couldn't cope with, eventually. Needed the rain so no complaints. If you want to see daily photos of the beach - then http://twitter.com/#!/petecraske is the puppy. There are some pretty spectacular ones from today.
Whitsun week - we have a vacancy at the Beach House coming up - Monday 30th May - Friday 3rd June - 550, sleeps ten. First to call with a credit card seals the deal - 07760 126225. Speaking of Whitsun, following a stunning Easter period, looks like everyone's been inspired to visit again at the end of the month. Bookings are well up on previous years - it's going to be a busy one. Could be a good year for Cornwall.
I think that's it, yep, nothing else to report.... all's well on the beach.
