The Fastest Watersport - Popularity Growing Again
Posted: 26 Aug 2011 11:46 AM PDT
Windsurfers are the fastest monohull sailing craft in the world and there may actually be more windsurfers around the globe than all other types of sailboats put together! After a dip in popularity during the late 90's, the number of people taking up windsurfing is growing once again, thanks partly to developments in windsurfing equipment design that have made windsurfing much easier to learn.
Windsurf boards are now compact in shape & lightweight, making for easy carrying & storage. The rigging process is very much 'plug & play', only taking minutes to assemble the kit. To go windsurfing, you do not have to be a member of a sailing club. Any public beach is a potential launch site.
It can be a social sport, windsurfing with a group of friends or equally something you can just get out there and do on your own. Windsurfing is also a sport for all ages, from kids through to the retired. Basically the whole family can windsurf!
A big factor towards the increase in popularity is also down to influence of the new skateboard inspired freestyle moves such as Vulcans, Spocks & Flakas.
People like the fact that windsurfing gives you the feeling of speed with a hassle free sense of freedom without any regular outgoings to do the sport. You can can take your windsurfing to a level and then just enjoy it or if you want to keep pushing yourself there is always a new skill to learn.

Windsurfing Club is a Great Success
Posted: 01 Aug 2011 01:17 PM PDT
The Poole Windsurfing Club has now been running for 3 weeks with everyone loving the chance to get out after work for a bit of 'sunset windsurfing'. There has been a mixed bag of conditions from very light to the forecast strong breeze for this weeks windsurf club.
Those who persevered through the lack of wind at the start of last weeks windsurf club were rewarded with some nice conditions in the last hour, as the wind pickup up to a moderate breeze. This weeks windsurfing club looks set to to be really good, with a westerly wind, 12 knots. Due to the lack of water in the harbour on Wednesday we have moved the evening to Friday, 6-8pm just for this week. The following week will be back to Wednesday 6.30-8.30pm.
Should you wish to join the windsurfing club but have never windsurfed before, we can arrange for a taster session whilst our regulars are out hiring. This will get you up to speed and mean you can then join the others out on the water, practicing what you have been shown.
Our instructors are always on hand for some useful hints & tips before you head out on the water, so come and join the 'Evening Session' windsurfing club to practice your skills, unwind after work & have a laugh!
