Keeping In Touch - Autumn 2012
As the summer season calms down a bit, we can reflect on a busy year but have already got big plans for 2013. One of our highlights this year was entertaining both Mumford & Sons and Deadmau5 while they were in the area for Rock Ness this summer, both times at Aldourie Castle. With grand plans to expand into the Scottish Central belt and a 5-star award for TreeZone to tell you about, we can hardly contain our excitement. Read on to find out more...
We're expanding again and need your help
A couple of years ago we launched our aerial adventure course, TreeZone in Aviemore, expanding and diversifying our activities in the Scottish Highlands. We're now very excited to announce that Ross Boardman has recently joined us to help set up and run a new mobile activity operation in the Scottish central belt. We'll offer a number of activities at a variety of locations across the central belt of Scotland. This is very exciting news for us, but we have a lot of work to do over the winter months to be ready for a 2013 launch. Watch out for more news on Facebook and Twitter about what we'll be offering and where.
    We need your help
If you live in the central belt we want to know what your favourite outdoor activities are and where your favourite venues can be found. Perhaps you'd like to see some other outdoor activity in the area that's not already available? Please drop us an email with your thoughts. In addition to this, as some of you already will know we are a long-term activity partner of the Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA). They have recently opened a new pier facility at Rowardennan Youth Hostel (Loch Lomond) to encourage groups to arrive by waterbus. If you would like a group activity residential with a difference, based right there on the Bonny, Bonny Banks then give us a call to discuss.
TreeZone gets 5-star Visit Scotland rating
This is huge news for us and well-deserved recognition for Beccy and her team in Aviemore. Since opening two and a half years ago, TreeZone has continued to offer customers a great experience and one which they remember for all the right reasons. TreeZone is now one of only 4 Activity Providers in Scotland that hold the 5-star accolade. Congratulations to the team for all their efforts and to continued success in the future.
    Off-road Segways
Our Segways have been off-roading all summer to the delight of many a visitor to the Rothiemurchus Estate. We've also taken our Segways up the A9 to Aldourie Castle for a wedding, giving the guests the chance to enjoy the estate from a different vantage point and to Eden Court in Inverness for the Highland Spotlight Event recently. We'll continue to offer pay-to-play Segways (and archery) sessions throughout the winter in Aviemore. If you want to try them out check the Rothiemurchus website for available sessions or contact us if you'd like to try our Segways somewhere else in Scotland (for group bookings only). Our Segways are available for bookings across Scotland.
Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society took on the Spey
Some adventurous WDCS supporters recently took on a River Spey Canoe challenge to raise funds for this worthy cause. The group weren't experienced paddlers, so there were perhaps some pre-expedition nerves to deal with too. Guided ably by our instructor Ross, and accompanied by Pam (from our office), the group made their way through Speyside by paddle power, camping along the way and honing their new-found paddling skills as they went. With some big standing waves along the way not everyone stayed dry for the duration of the trip, but with big smiles as they arrived in Spey Bay, it seems they all had a great time. We don't know how much has been raised yet but hope that the WDCS coffers are swelling like the Spey does in spate! The WDCS hope to run similar fund-raising expeditions in 2013 so make sure you keep an eye on their website if you think you'd like to have a go yourself - this trip is not just for experienced paddlers. There's also a trip report telling you a bit more about how the expedition went.
    Whitewater Sledging
As you'll remember from the last newsletter, our long-awaited whitewater sledges arrived in early summer. Having been checking out venues and training staff, we took our first booking in August for a fun-seeking family who did gorge swimming and whitewater sledging in the same day!! Talk about a full-on day! We've now got a few great venues (2 near Inverness and 1 near Aviemore) which we can't wait to show to customers. If you're still not sure what it's all about check out this video footage to see it for yourself. Thanks must go to our New Zealand based friends Serious Fun River Sledging who dropped in to see us for a couple of days to give us some top tips and share some of their considerable experience.
    Free Prize Draw
Congratulations go to our latest winner, Fiona Henderson from the village of Farr. She'll be heading off to TreeZone with our compliments to find out why Visit Scotland has just rated it as a 5-star Activity Provider. For the next draw we're offering another 4 passes for TreeZone to one lucky subscriber of our newsletter. All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is keep on subscribing.
[Please note that the passes are not exchangeable for cash. The draw will be made after Friday 30th November 2012 and the winner will be contacted shortly thereafter. Boots N Paddles reserves the right to publish the name of the winner in the subsequent newsletter, on our social media pages and on the Boots N Paddles' website].

    Apocalypse Advice for Surfers
With the world edging ever closer to what some believe could be the end and with only days till the catastrophe that will see the planet and its inhabitants destroyed, Errant Surf has issued some guidelines and advice for surfers.
    1) Do feel free to drop in on friends from now on. Take all the best set waves. You won't be needing friends after December 21st.
    2) Do book all your time off work before the 21st December and go catch some winter swells.
    3) Don't worry about dropping off your board to have its dings fixed.
    4) Don't lend out any wax, you probably won't get it back.
    5) Do surf early, surf all day and surf at night. Less than ten days and the forecast is looking good.
    6) Do let us know if the world ends for you before us, tweet us @errantsurf
    7) Don't go to the French village of Bugarach to be saved. Go live it up in Hossegor instead.
    8) Don't pay full price for your 2013 surfing holiday. Instead book any surfing holiday in 2013 with a 25% deposit. Then its win/win. If everyone survives you have an ace holiday to look forward to and if we all don't you can contact us for a full refund.

    Surf's Up! Polzeath
    www.surfsupsurfschool.com
    29/11/2012
The weather has been playing havoc on the beach. The hurricanes in the USA have been sending through substantial surf, as big as I can remember. Tales of snapped boards and big wipe-outs are the go. And the rain last week, flooded the Valley Caravan Park and the stream cut a 3ft deep meander through the car park. Quite a mess. Oh and we had a big tide that came right over the road a couple of weeks ago.... it's all been going on.
The Surf's Up! 2013 Calendar is on the press as we speak (limited edition of only 200 this year)... you can pre-order on 07760 126225. Some of our favourite photos (like the one above) of Polzeath taken throughout the year assembled in a desk top format. Looks really great, we're pleased with it. Would make a nice Chrissie pressie. I always think the surf lesson vouchers are the go for Chrissie pressies, something a bit different - three to choose from depending on budget. They're available from our on line shop on the gift page along with our hoodies and lots of other great pressie ideas.
And the Beach House is still available over Christmas. If you fancy turkey with all the trimmings and then a walk on the sand, there's no better place....Christmas tree with baubles included! If asked nicely, Wailin plays a mean Santa. 07760 126225 or email us to discuss further. Sleeps ten.
