  • Wakefield Sailing Club

The club promotes an active racing programme all the year round. Popular boats types owned by our members include Laser, GP14, Enterprise and Wayfarer. Although we share the lake with other Pugney users because of itís enormous size we have a permanent set of markers for our races that covers approximately half of the lake and when other users are not on the water we can extend our race course to the whole of the lake. All classes of sailing boats that have achieved an RYA handicap are permitted. Club owned boats - Enterprise, Wayfarer and two Toppers. Although we do not run any formal training ourselves Pugneys are renowned throughout the area for their many and varied RYA courses that run throughout the year. The pugneys site is a multi activity centre that caters for lovers of water sports such as windsurfing, canoeing and sailing and is the largest sailable body of water in the area. It also attracts walkers and wildlife enthusiasts and is overlooked by a ruined castle. The centre has changing rooms, male and female showers, lockers, a cafe serving hot and cold snacks and meals, a large car park and secure year round dinghy park. It has slipways and jetties for easy dry-shod launching and fifty acres of safe water. Come and see us on racing days and chat to members who will be only too happy to offer help and advice.
