Robin has extensive paddling experience. From white water, slalom, sea and surf to descent and marathon racing. Canoe, kayak or raft. He is a BCU level 3 kayak coach and has taught many folks to paddle and indeed roll. He's a foundation safety and rescue course provider too.
As a volunteer he is Head of Coaching at Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club and has received a volunteer award from Canoe England and was runner up Dacorum Community Coach of the year 2010. He has worked at Herts Young Mariners Base running paddling and sailing sessions as well as helping on raft building. He's also volunteer organiser (LCO) for Canoe England and set up an easily updatable website for them.
He was part of a team who broke the 24 hour distance dragon boat Guinness world record. Yes, a world record holder! (For an account he wrote see here or click here to see the certificate.) Plus he's a member of the GB Grand Dragons, GB dragon boat squad, working towards the EU championships in 2012. He has also completed the gruelling 125 mile Devizes to Westminster non-stop canoe race.
He has a host of BCU (British Canoe Union) qualifications including being a level 3 coach. In addition he has attended a lot of UK Sports Coach workshops. He has a current emergency first aid (8hrs with CPR) certificate and has completed the Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Equity in your Coaching workshops.
He completed a raft guide course and practised extensively at the Olympic Lee Valley white water course. He also runs rafting parties and does sessions for various special needs groups as well as trips.
Robin also runs pool /rolling training at Sandringham School Pool over the winter, subject to pool availability. These are fun sessions where you can learn to roll, are taught various skills and play polo to build confidence and reinforce skills.
